Jaguar xf 3.0tdv6 - “unusual noise when braking"

Customer Complaint:
Unusual noise coming from the rear brakes, particularly under braking.

Inspection Findings:
A detailed inspection revealed that the driver's rear brake pad was excessively worn down to the metal, while the inner pad showed minimal wear. The brake disc was also heavily scored. Further investigation found the caliper was partially seized due to aluminium oxidization, causing it to stick. This uneven braking was leading to premature wear on the outer pad and causing unnecessary drag on the wheel, potentially reducing fuel efficiency.

Work Carried Out:

  • Replaced rear brake pads

  • Replaced rear brake discs

  • Replaced brake wear sensor

  • Removed caliper and cleaned away oxidization from the contact surfaces

  • Greased all relevant sliding components to ensure smooth operation and prevent recurrence

Following reassembly, the braking system was bled and tested. A final road test confirmed smooth, even braking with no noise or pull. The issue has been resolved, and the vehicle is now safe and running efficiently.
